Michigan State football has reportedly reached out to Texas cornerback transfer, and former five-star, Terrance Brooks.

The spring transfer window may be closed for underclassmen, but that doesn’t mean Michigan State football can’t go fishing for talent.

Jonathan Smith has remained active in the portal and it looks like he’ll be adding to the roster throughout the next month. The portal is going to be key if he’s going to turn Michigan State around quickly.

Unfortunately, it hasn’t been all that kind to him so far with over 30 Spartans leaving the program to enter the portal this offseason and top cornerback target Jay’Vion Cole committing to Texas before even taking his visit to East Lansing. Smith has gotten a commitment from Arizona State cornerback transfer Ed Woods over Alabama, but there’s a need for more depth and experience at the position.

That’s where Terrance Brooks could come into play.

The former five-star cornerback in the 2022 class and Texas transfer entered the portal following spring ball and he’s heard from 27 schools already. Michigan State has been one of them, according to Hayes Fawcett.

As you can see, there are some big names on that list with Michigan, Florida State, Miami, Oregon, USC, and Nebraska all reaching out. We see Miami, Colorado, Oregon, and USC on almost every transfer’s list of schools that have reached out and the Spartans have lost targets to each one.

Maybe this time will be different.

Brooks has some big schools contacting him, but the Spartans have to feel good about their chances in this group. They just won a transfer recruiting battle with Alabama, so Smith has shown he can beat out top programs for coveted recruits. Plus, the Spartans could offer more playing time than most of the big-time schools on that list.

The Texas transfer had 20 tackles, six pass breakups, and three interceptions last season while playing for the Big 12 champion Longhorns who made it to their first-ever College Football Playoff. He’d be a huge addition to the cornerback room.

We’ll see if Smith can get a visit set up.
